ohn Stephens, son of Alexander Stephens and Mary Daley was born in Rowan Co. North Carolina, on March 31, 1811. In 1833 he married Elizabeth Briggs in Navoo Illinois, where they remained until July 1847. While in Navoo they had 8 children, David Henderson , John Cornielius, Almira Carolina, Alexander Nephi, Daniel Monroe, Elizabeth Jane, and Thomas Jefferson. In 1848 they moved to Potawatami Iowa, now called Council Bluffs. There they had 2 more children, Constance Ann, and Solomon Clinton. In 1851 they set out with the Bates Co. for Utah. On October 4, 1851 they arrived in the Salt Lake Valley Where they joined with John's brother Alexander, and Eventually Settled 40 miles North of Salt Lake in Ogden. On April 1, 1853 Mary gave birth to twins , William Jesse, and George Washington. George Dies that same day.
